Tír Chonaill Stone Festival 2023
24 - 25 June   Donegal Town

We look forward to seeing you!

Keeping our traditional stone crafts alive in the community, our annual event is a celebration of Dry Stone Walling and Stone Carving.

Set in charming Donegal Town, workshops are designed to give participants hands-on experience and confidence in working with stone. If you are a beginner or someone who already has skill, this Festival brings people together for a practical and friendly weekend where everyone shares their love for stone.

Led by experts with many years of experience in stone work and in passing on their skills, participants are trained in the basic principles of their chosen craft.

All workshop tickets include lunch.

Camping is available, please contact us at: info@tirchonaillstonefestival.ie

Dry Stone Walling is all about team work. You will be working alongside others to build 26 meters of wall from the ground up, using local sandstone.

This ancient craft has enjoyed a

resurgence and is central to our stone built heritage.

By taking part in this workshop you are helping to keep the craft alive and will also leave a legacy, as your wall will be still standing in a hundred years from now. After the weekend you will have enough skill to carry with you onto other projects if you chose.

Dry Stone Walling is an authentic 'meitheal' experience where a lot is achieved by many hands, while having a bit of craic too!

Stone Carving goes back a very long time in Ireland. Workshops are an opportunity to learn how to use a chisel and hammer, and to hone your skills. You might like to cut letters, numbers or try a design of some sort like Celtic knot-work.

The piece you create over the duration of the workshop is of a size you can take your work home!

Donegal Town is a great location with good restaurants and bars to visit by evening.

Our event is kindly supported by Donegal County Council, Drimkeelan Sandstone Quarry and Mc Monagle Stone.
